Classed as a rare breeding species the little egret is a small white heron with white plumes on its crest, back and chest. It has a black bill, black legs legs and bright yellow feet. It first appeared in the UK in significant numbers in 1989 and first bred in Dorset in 1996. The little egret is now at home on numerous south coast sites, both as a breeding species and as a winter visitor.

That’s good, we spot them too. They were gone for quite a while with the on-going development of Hooe Quarry and others. Thankfully, although less frequently it looks like they are returning.
I have spotted a kingfisher twice now here at Hexton Quay along with little grebe and egret.
Glad to see there are six signets on duck ponds.
Today I have seen a jay, dunnocks, blackbirds (m&f)robin, wagtail,egret,greenshank,redshank,swan family, little grebe, shellducks,pigeons,bluetit,and great tit in and around the Lake.
