News update on Boston’s Boatyard

The Old Wharf Residents’ Association (TOWRA) have informed us of the following

Inquiry into first Planning application appeal – Boston’s Boatyard

The information which we have now received is that the Inquiry will take place over 3 days i.e. March 2^nd – March 4^th 2010 inclusive. This is to be held at the Council Chambers in the Civic Centre, Plymouth, beginning at 10am on Tuesday. Members of the public are welcome to attend the Inquiry and TOWRA’s Chairman Doug Constable and Secretary Pat Constable and others of the Committee will be there as much as possible.

An Inquiry is the most formal and more complicated of the appeals’ procedures which usually involves statements, cross-examination, witnesses, closing speeches and a follow up visit to the appeal site by the Inspector. It is not yet known when the decision is likely to be issued but The Old Wharf Residents’ Association has submitted a request in writing to be informed of that decision.

We have sought advice from our MP Gary Streeter and our Ward Councillor Mike Leaves and Plymouth City Council Planning Dept. concerning speaking at this Inquiry but they are all of the opinion that this will not be necessary. All paperwork for this appeal, including our many letters of objection, was sent to the Inspectorate months ago.  Mr Boston has lodged an appeal against refusal of the second planning application but no date for this to be heard, has yet been set.
